Penrith to Gretna Green - Day 16 - 20 July

The morning didn't get off to the planned start as I decided to pop into Arragons Cycles in Penrith. Despite every bike shop in the land being run off their feet a mechanic stopped what he was doing to look at my faulty gear change. He also pointed out a number of broken spokes in the rear wheel as well as the fact that the drive train was worn out (despite a service immediately before I set off which was a bit miffing). I had to cool my heels so I took a few photos in Penrith.

Pleasant little arcade

The couple I bought my house from moved to Southwaite but I didn't have time to divert.
 I liked the view.
Now that is what you call a green roof.
Love the colour of these calves.
This tower in Carlisle was enormous.
Carlisle is a major town for biscuit making, it smells of baking biscuits.

My route was straight by the castle.
A lovely bridge to reach the castle from the town centre

Concrete barriers made pretty by placing a plant pot on each one
I saw a marker like this in Devon I think
One of the last rivers I crossed in England
A welcome site
No Scottish beer in my small hotel.
I'm in Scotland, yippee.
