Glastonbury (Street) to Bristol - 11 July

Not so many photos today for reasons I will explain.

From Street, Glastonbury was the first stop. Some lovely old buildings.

A mile marker with a difference.
Very clear signage, the Strawberry Line but I didn't see any.
Spotted this aerial artwork despite wearing my sunglasses under a shady bridge.
Vicar's Close in Wells. the only intact 14th century street in Europe. Sorry about the car which popped in.
 A lovely tree
Extinction Rebellion silently protest for 1 hour each Saturday in Wells. I had a little chat with them and asked before taking the photograph which they were very happy about.

Odd sign, how do you know if there is parking after the sign?
Next came the climb past Wookey Hole up to the Mendip Hills. There had been a small climb upo into Wells but nothing like this monster. If you want to try it from the comfort of your armchair, navigate on google maps to Wookey Hole and then go west up the High Street and then right up Kennel Batch and the right up Deerleap (you are climbing all the way) which is where I met a few cars and lost momentum so had to stop and then walk. Once the road cleared I was back on the pedals and pressing hard and the hill just kept on coming until eventually after many false summits the real summit came into view. I took a rest for a sandwich, crisps, smoothie and flapjack but by now, without realising it, I was well into the red.
The view was wonderful especially knowing that half an hour before I was down on the level.
Burnham on Sea is behind the distant hill.
 Holiday in a teepee anyone?
After the huge ascent I dropped down into the valley and Chew valley lake. I stopped for an ice cream and found that my legs had gone and I was a little faint.
A slight wrong turn on the route found this ford, currently dry but a gauge which runs to 6 feet?
A brick tower, not sure what it is about.
A couple of pints of Guinness, some couscous and a pizza brought me back to life.

  1. Have only just cottoned on to what you are up to, Mr M. Hats off (Helmets off). But what does the name mean? Can't see much jogging going on ...

  2. LEJOG stands for Land's End to John O'Groats - no energy left for actual jogging.
