Land's End to Truro - 5 July

Short of time as slept for 10 hours for some reason so only photos for now. The view from my room at the Land's End Hotel just before setting off.

Too early for the photographer, who was, I think waiting in the wings but just watched Susan take a few shots and a video which is too big for my little laptop to cope with today. I would have paid £10 for an official photograph through the post.

The shortest road route is 874 miles but using Sustrans paths which wiggle about a bit but largely keep you off busy roads it is almost 1,200 miles and more once I get lost a few times.
A good breakfast at the Land's End hotel.

Social distancing just like on narrow roads.
The slope up to my friend's house in St Ives, 25% I'll walk thanks. I didn't stay long with M, a nice cup of tea and a catch up, as I had no idea how long the first stage would take me and visiting M added at least 5 miles.
My friend J who I stayed with near Truro had some good local beer. We had a lovely chat. She had stayed with me for a month or two in about 2008 before moving to Cornwall.
J was always a good cook and whilst it is now mostly just for her, she had not lost her touch. The Hake was delicious.

I think this was just after leaving Land's End.
This is Lamorna Cove. Warning, do not cycle down as you have to come back up.
St Michael's Mount in the distance.
Industrial heritage.

The view from my friend's house in St Ives.
Am doing a PCN for a lady whose car is registered here. Lovely trees.
Former mine, now retail.
Arsenic mined here.
My first night destination, so happy to see the town sign.
Gosh, updating this a week after the start.

  1. Loved the breakfast menu, mistakes always appear. Well done on your first week, Street is a lovely place with a period market hall.

  2. Good luck. Even with my rubbish geography I know Bedfordshire is not en route so see you when you get back.
